During their lockdown-enforced break from live performances, Hampshire-based indie-folk band Sandtimer have been finishing work on their second album, Running In Sunlight, due out later this year. Today they are releasing the first single from the record, ’Different Seas’, which is a piano-led reworking of one of the band’s first ever songs, trading out the upbeat folk shuffle of the original for a sombre, melancholy piano accompaniment.
‘In a time where we’re all looking back on the past from a dramatically different vantage point, we’ve found a completely different perspective on our song just by playing it in a different way,’ singer Simon Thomas reflected on the song.
‘Different Seas’ kicks off a stream of songs from the new album, which the band has described as ‘a more stripped-back, laid-back record than the last one’. It follows on from last year’s debut ‘everything is on hold’, which they promoted with tours of Canada, Europe and the UK and was featured on the BBC Radio 6’s Introducing Mixtape, alexrainbirdmusic, Thread. and ChillFiltr.
