"To judge a state, one must look at its prisons from the inside." (Leo Tolstoy)
Diana Ezerex is an award-winning singer-songwriter who has been performing charity concertsin prisons since 2017. In 2021, she was inspired to write about prison-related topics for herdebut album which was released on 25.06.2021. The songs tackle taboo subjects such assystematic oppression and social injustices faced by inmates of the German prison system.Ezerex challenges her listeners about mental health, acceptance, and finding one's way (back)into society through her music writing. Her music aims to create common ground for people whohave a connection to incarceration with those who do not.
e music moves between (urban) pop, hip-hop/trap and soul. Produced by ThorstenRheinschmidt, the sounds, together with her deep, smoky voice, resemble the energy ofRag'n'Bone Man, the intensity of Bon Iver and the serenity of Anderson .Paak. "Her sometimesalmost flattering music contrasts interestingly with the heaviness of the topics" (Rolling Stone).
ith the help of music videos for each song, a book, play and short film, creative workshops foryoungsters, projects with youth orchestras, a remix version of the whole album and a charityexhibition for creative resocialization measures, the themes are to be made tangible andaccessible on various levels.
In cooperation with artists from all over Europe, a broadly based artistic project is beingcreated, which highlights social grievances on different levels through different media. Theprison setting is to be used to process and illustrate general social and structural issues and toencourage change. Diana Ezerex Music.
